Randall is lucky enough to work at home, where we work and end up watching a lot of movies. He remarked on this obvious plothole when we were watching TRON, right after we cheered for the open source resolution! We’re still fans of the film though. Just yesterday, Randall was listening to some pretty loud music with a narrator talking about being on “The Grid….in a motorcycle…”. Yup my little geek listens to the soundtrack while coding. 😀

Defying Logic
Image
Randall has explained to me several times that the basis of programming or telling a computer what to do, comes down to positive and negative input and output. Just like binary is clearly made up of only zeros and ones, a program’s data is objective. This objectivity is logic. Every now and then, Randall will point out something that disturbs his paradigm of logic in our reality. People who run in place are a violation of logic according to my husband’s computery mind.
Exquisite Man

It is very rarely that Randall lays his programming hands on an “old fashioned and outdated medium” such as paper. He often makes fun of me for even owning pencils and pens (just type everything instead, right?). Â However, he recently ordered this special moleskin notebook on Amazon along with an architect drafting pencil. He said they were the best and oh so special! He talked it about constantly until it finally arrived, and I asked him what he planned to do with it. If you know my husband, you know he is very motivated-or obsessive- about what he wants. He wants to be his personal best and plans to sleep when he dies. He also apparently plans to be remembered by his contributions and APIs. That’s great! The problem is, I am still wrapping my head around the definition of an API because I’ve never used one personally as a developer. While Randall is very motivating, the things he says are, yet again, unusual and entertaining at times. I do admire his ambitions, and perhaps someday I can fully appreciate his APIs.
When Gaming Comes Between Us
Image
Steam for Linux will smother our marriage and shatter my world. I do like to game and Randall introduced me to Steam years ago. Â I, however, Â can stop gaming to do things like eat and sleep and live, whereas Randall simply cannot. Thanks to Steam finally coming out on Linux, I must strategically plan a few electricity outages to remind Randall who I am and that we have a relationship. My life got harder and his better. Â I see the fate of 2012 now, just when I thought we would make it.
