I guess I’ll be learning UNIX. I knew it was coming to this, because he tries to reformat my computer with different operating systems when I’m not home. I’m sure UNIX is great. I just didn’t know that we were ready to take this step together. Gulp.
The Essentials
Image
We are moving again in three weeks to San Francisco/East Bay area to attend fellow hackathons and such. The last two times that we moved, I worked full time and left the unpacking to Randall. It turned out like this image above each time; he only unpacked his laptop and some books on hacking. That was it! He didn’t see the problem, just “the essentials”.
Time Machine
Image
Randall speeds sometimes and tells me we just have to get to 88 mph. It took me a few years to realize that this is because he pretends he’s in the movie, Back to the Future. He wasn’t proud that it took me so long to understand. Now, we speed if there’s a van behind us because it means that “the Libyans are coming.”

The Bug
Image
When Randall read The Bug by Ellen Ullman, he withdrew himself and complained of how sad he felt in response to the story. I knew it was the first time (in a long time) that he had read fiction and I assumed it must’ve been a good book! I’ve heard that the protagonist is a programmer in the 1980’s, and the bug is actually referring to a bug in code. I don’t want to attempt to summarize it any further, because I haven’t read it yet. I can say that Randall does recommend it, despite his reaction.
StartupVitamins Posters
Image
Yup. Randall got some snazzy posters for his home office and the first thing he did while being surrounded by pure positivity, was play tower defense for three days! So….the posters definitely work. If you get any of these Startup Vitamins, as they’re called, be sure to have enough willpower to use them for good.
ab Command
So I don’t personally, fully understand this command, however another weird situation has happened in my life of living with a programmer. Randall exclaimed at the computer again. His friend messaged me online to let me know what kind of trouble Randall was in. It turns out my husband, Randall, accidentally locked himself out of his own application by typing the wrong command. Thanks to Craig for letting me know(uh, Randall says that you distracted him and it’s your fault he ran this command!). 😀
